All Aboard!

I'm a riddle in nine syllables,
An elephant, a ponderous house,
A melon strolling on two tendrils.
O red fruit, ivory, fine timbers!
The loaf's big with its yeasty rising.
Money's new-minted in this fat purse.
I'm a means, a stage, a cow in calf.
I've eaten a bag of green apples,
Boarded the train there's no getting off.
-Sylvia Plath

That last line, "Boarded the train there's no getting off," has been running through my head over and over the last nine months; when I was morning sick, when I get overwhelmed, when I think about the pain that is coming, and especially when I realize I have a lifetime of service ahead of me. There are so few decisions to be made that can't be undone that it's really quite frightening to realize that there really is no getting off of this train.

Here's to hoping that everyone else on this ride that swears by the journey and destination aren't crazy.

Haha I felt that same way... except I didn't come anywhere near putting it quite as eloquently as you just did. Good news is that the train ride is a very good and happy and rewarding one. Oh I hope this little baby knows what a good ride he has ahead. I mean, he IS your kid, and that is a darned good train to be on.

Oh, Ande, this post made me laugh -- especially the last line. I wondered the same thing myself.

Michelle's comment was very comforting. I promise, you personally make me know it's true. It's a very good ride.

This was the thought I would think in such times.... and still do.

"I am going to be to this baby, what my mom is to me. I cannot believe someone is going to love me so deeply and completely. I will always be this baby's mother. Always."

Besides, now that your the mom, you get to decide when it's bedtime. Tonight bedtime came early for levin. It was in the best interest of all involved .

Jenny and I were just talking about you and that bag of apples you swallowed. We're so excited for you! Keep us updated on how that ride goes.

It is a great and happy train ride...most of the time. The comfort hidden in that statement is that even when it's hard and frustrating, I've never wanted off.

Your baby is going to have such a fun ride. I love your sense of humor and goodness. What a wonderful mother you will be.
